Photos!

Sorry for the bad quality but I just figured that i would take some pictures with the phone to let you guys know what is up... but yeah that is me and my companion, Elder Gomez, then there is a picture of the baptismal font... and lastly the bus on the way to the party.. I went standing right where I took the picture the whole time!  It was a full bus!

HEYO!!!!!

Well this week has been a pretty good one!!!!!!  I just love this area of cubulco!!!!  The members are awesome... the investigators are awesome... the climate is awesome...  IT IS JUST GREAT!!!!!!!

But anyways... this week was full of stuff so I am going to go by day by day...

Monday:  We went to coban to get rid of Elder Tello... he was a good companion, so I am going to miss him... but that was kind of a boring day...

Tuesday:  I got my new companion... His name is Elder Gomez!!  He is from the Domincan Republic, and well lets just say that he is still getting used to the mission... he is new.. .this is his first week, and he is a little bit weird, but he remind me of me... He doesnt talk AT ALL!!!  I have had like 4 or 5 people ask me this week if he knows spanish... and well of course he does, but he just doesnt talk... so we are just getting used to that!

Wednesday:  We got to cubulco and had the first day of work with elder Gomez and it was a pretty great day!  We were able to meet with luki and prepare her for her baptism on friday... and all was well and we put the plan to have the interview on thursday!

Thursday:  Luki had her interview and she passed with flying colors!!!  She knos a ton about the gospel, and now she hardly has friends, because she accepted the church, but she loves life now better than before, because she recognized what is the correct thing to do!  So she is great!

Friday:  In the morning we had the baptism of Luki and I baptized her!  And well all is well with her she is doing good... and we did it in a waterfall!!  It was pretty cool!  Then after we baptized her we went to the District Christmas party for all of Baja Verapaz... which is like the stake here where I am at but its not a stake it is a District, and we were able to take 11 investigators to that... and it was in Salama which is 2 hours away!!!!!  So that was just fantastic!!!!  All the people loved it!!!

Saturday:  Saturday was just a day to prepare for sunday.. .so we just visited some people and we taught them a little bit to get them to go to church on sunday...

Sunday:  This was probably the biggest week!  We were able to have church in the morning and we confirmed Luki and I did it again because my companion didnt want to.. because he was scared to do it in front of the people... so yeah got to work on that, but yeah church was good...  Although sunday was a very long day... I have to direct and preside the church meetings... then I had to talk because the people that were going to talk didnt show up... and then I had to give the sunday school class, because we still dont have a teacher for that... then after church from we went to go visit one of our investigators named Edwin and he decided that he is going to get baptized the 17th of January which is good... then after him we had to go to our house to do tithing settlement from like 2:30 until 9:00... so that was kind of a bummer because we couldnt work but it was kind of fun to do interviews with the members!  So today I am super tired... because last week was just full of stuff, and this week we are going to have even more things!!!!

Cant wait until next week!

Love you All

Hello my family and friends...

Well this week was an interesting week... not really anything crazy happened this week as for the stories go... but we did have quite a bit of success...  First off we were able to Confirm the date for baptism for luki, and she will be getting baptized this friday!  It was a pretty cool story how that all worked out so that is pretty exciting!  Also we were able to have 7 investigators in church, 5 of which have dates to get baptized in January, and the other one just showed up so we still havent taught him, and the last one is leaving for the states on wednesday or he would be getting baptized... so we have got some good things going on!

Also another cool experience that happened was that with one of our investigators (marcos, the one going to the states) his daughter that is like 3 would keep waking up in the middle of the night and start screaming and basically having seizures.. and he said that he wanted us to bless her.  We still hadnt taught him much about the preisthood, but he did have a general knowledge of it and he believed that if we were to bless her it would stop... so we did give the blessing... and while Elder Tello was giving it we both felt as if something left her body... it wasnt a strong feeling, like it shows on t.v. in exorcisms and all that crap, but we just felt as though she was cleaned from something, and we both felt it leave her body... then after the blessing, we looked at marcos... and he was crying!!!!!  so we just sat in silence for like 3 minutes and then he began to explain what was going on... He said that while we were giving the blessing he got the goosebumps... super strong, and the shivers, but not from cold... but he felt at peace... he felt a peace come upon his body.  And so that was super great!!!!  He truly got a testimony of the church in that moment.. but sadly he is going to the states this wednesday so we wont be able to baptism him... but we are going to baptize his wife, and sister in law!

So that is about all that I have to share with you guys!

Love you All

Hey so here are some forewarded photos... and well sadly yes that is us in the bus... but we are o.k. it was actually quite a weird experience.. but I will explain it to you guys in 8 months...  dont worry at no point it was life threatening... just fun...  we just got into the tilted bus...  and took pictures...  it was fun...

So that is a part of me that you can see!  I hope that in 2 weeks i will have some more pictures!!!!!!!!!!

Love you ALLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello... and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well my family and friends, this week was a good week here in cubulco!  We had some interesting things happen during the transcourse of this week!  Starting off with the weirdest experience of this week was that we were just in the street walking, when we saw one of the young men (member) in the street with his friends... so we started talking to them and well long story short this member is very less active, and a little bit strange... and well we were talking to him and he snuck something to Elder tello... and he told him to put it in his pocket and not open it until we got home... so when we turned the corner out of curiosity (pardon my spelling).. opened the bag... and it was full of weed...  Yup the weed that you smoke..so we just threw it in the garbage can and walked away... oops...

Next story is that we have this one investigator named luki which is very smart... and yesterday in church Elder Tello was teaching Gospel Principles, and he mentioned something about his study journal for the scriptures.. and after the class she asked us if we could give her some scriptures to study so that she could start a study journal.. and so after church when one of the members left to work with us he commented to us that he passed by her house (theyre friends) and he saw her study journal full!!!! and she told him that she is for sure going to get baptized that there is no doubt in her mind!  So that was pretty cool!

Also lastly I am just thankful for thanksgiving... we were able to eat thanksgiving dinner in a members house and we had turkey with rice!  So it wasnt quite the usual turkey with mashed potatoes, but it was still pretty good!

Well that is about all folks!

Another week gone

Well this week was another adventurous week!  But I am super tired because we just got done playing tennis... and it was my first time playing a sport other than soccer in like 16 months and so I am super tired, but I will try my best to share with you guys what has happened this week!

So now we have two investigators that are sisters name Erika and Luki... they are wife and sister in law of a member in Cubulco and we are teaching them and they finally decided that they want to get baptized!  So we are just going to prepare them a little and then they will get baptized within a few weeks!  So we are pretty excited for that!

But this week we had a district conference on sunday (for those that live in utah and dont know what that is, but it is like stake conference but for the branches..)  and so we had to take the whole group of cubulco to salama, which is about 2 hours away... and well this week we only ended up with an attendance of 10 but that is ok... we are still super excited for this next week!

As for me and Elder tello we are doing good.. he is making his final preparations to go home in like 2 weeks so we are kind of sad to see him go...

And well I guess that that is all...

Good Luck!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I still dont have pictures but here is the difference in me... the first week in my mission... compared to the last week I had a camara (october)

CUBULCO!

So yeah just to update you guys on my mission... it is going pretty pretty well... This week in cubulco we had 37 people!  So we are just strolling along very nicely here...
So I dont know if you guys remember me in Rabinal a year ago... back then the people from cubulco and rabinal attended church there... and we usually had somewhere around 30-35 people each week... and well this week a year later we had 37 in just Cubulco!  We also had 16 more people in church this week than last week!  This area is growing super fast!  9 of those people that came were inactive members since like 12 years ago... and another 6 were investigadores...  So in other words it was a very successful week here in cubulco!
As for my companion and my personal status well all is well...
I just dont have much to say other than that I am really content to be here in the mission!
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns... Write me..

Photos!

So these are the pictures of where we had church the first time in cubulco and all of the people (minus 4) who assisted... the other 4 didnt get into the picture... but they will be remembered...  So yeah that is me on the right for those who didnt notice!

Cubulco

Well this week was a pretty good week!  We had church in Cubulco for the first time in like millions of years!  It was really exciting and it was probably my favorite sunday in my whole life!  So we had church at 9 like always and well the only sad part was that nobody showed up until like 9 15... but that is normal for guatemala... And we ended up having 21 people there!  It was great!  And the cool thing is that we have 5 different families there and so it was just them and some of their friends and it was really cool to see it all happen!  So I was just super excited and it was cool to see the dreams of these people finally come true!  They had been praying..  some members for like 10 years that there would be a church there in Cubulco!  And we were a part of the first meeting there!  So we were basically the pioneers of this area so we took pictures after church which is only 2 hours because we are a group not a stake or a branch, and so I will send those to you!  But the members are super excited to work here because they want this part of Guatemala to grow...  So that is all good!

Then other than that we received a little bit of bad news yesterday... because Lorenzo (who was one of the investigators that we were going to baptize) went to the house of one of his friends saturday, and they forced him to drink, and well he ended up getting drunk and sleeping over at his friends house and then didnt up going to church, so we have a little bit of a problem there... but we are going to see what happens with him this week.  So that was a little bit sad... and it showed us that not only God is advancing his work but Satan is also advancing his work... so yeah that was a wee bit sad..

But other than that we were able to have a pretty good week.  Me and Elder Tello had some good study sessions this week, probably some of my favorites in the mission... we learned some much because he has 23 months in the mission and also we just focused so hard on our area to see how we could progress it... and I really do know that the spirit was with us studying.. So that was great!

That´s all folks...

Another week in paradise!!

Well this week was halloween!  I hope that you enjoyed it!  So I dont know if you guys remember, but Rabinal is a pretty crazy place... and well the go hard with traditions... So here for Halloween, they go to the graveyard and they clean it up and they put food on the graves... Dont ask me why, because not only do I not know why, but they also dont know why they just say ¨well it is tradition so we do it¨ and well the funny thing also is that in Rabinal there are a bunch of drunks, and we saw them in the graveyard along with the dogs eating all the food!  So I ust thought that I would share that with you guys...

As for the work... IT IS GOING GREAT!  So here in Cubulco... we have to travel 39 minutes to Rabinal to go to church, and well I guess that like 2 months ago... President Curtiss sent in a request that it could become a little group.... Which means that it isnt quite a branch but we are going to be able to have our meetings in Cubulco... and there are only going to be like 10 people there including us! But we now have like 3 families that say that they will now finally get baptized now that there is a group there in Cubulco...  So we are going to see how that goes next week, because it will start the first time next week!  The only sad thing is that I wont be able to see the people from Rabinal very much anymore... but every monday and wednesday we have to pass through there to go to salama... and so maybe Ill see some people!

So the work in Cubulco is fantastic! There are many good things that are going to be happening here... First off we do have a lot of people here to teach... the only problem is that before everyone said that they just couldnt pay the fare to get to Rabinal, but now that there will be a little group here... they would like to get to know the church!  So over about this past year there have been about 5 or 6 families that were prepared by the elders to get baptized but they all said that if there were a church in Cubulco they would get baptized... so now me and elder tello are going to see how sincere those sayings were... that if they really are going to continue going to church and maybe get baptized... so I am kind of excited to see if I can do the other half of the work now.. My whole mission I have prepared people to be baptized but never seen it, so lets see if now I can be the person that finishes the work!  But we will see how that goes...

So yeah I am super excited!

Changes

Well this week has been an adventure!  I got a change last night and I will be heading to a place named Cubulco.... which I dont know if you guys remember or not, but that is right next to Rabinal (my first area)  and I will be going to the same branch!  so I am going to see all the people that I taught and knew at the first of my mission, because these areas are like 30 minutes apart, and they go to the same building... so I am super excited for that!  And I at one time was working in that area for 3 weeks, and we were able to find some people that were baptized so I will be able to see them too... so I am just so excited!  And another great part is that my companion is Elder Tello and he is from Texas, so I will be having my third Gringo companion, and I am super excited for that!

But here in La Libertad I am going to miss the people here... I got to know them and I think that I am going to miss it here... especially because we have got two more people that are going to be baptized in November here... so I am sad to not be here for that... But I guess the point of my mission was to see that hard work brings success... but many times I am not the person that receives this ¨success¨ all the time... which is fine by me.. So I am just so excited to hear them get baptized in a couple weeks...

But just so you all know, I am just enjoying the mission, it is the best thing in the world... and I hope to be able to continue working diligently for the short time that I have got!

Love you All

Here we go again!

Well this week was a good week... the only thing is that we werent able to pull the baptism of Agusto together, because he said that he would like to go about 2 or 3 more times to church to get to know more... but he is still dying with the desire to get baptized, but he decided that it would be better to change a little bit more, to become more like Christ before he was baptized.  So I guess that is a good thing... but we were a little disappointed, but whatever right... these people do have their agency.

But as for the other parts of the week... it was a pretty good week.  I was able to figure out today also that Douglas (an investigator that I had from Los Campos) was baptized!  So that was pretty cool!  And also that another family of four that I had in Los Campos that I didnt really talk about to you guys, because they werent too interested when I was there, were also baptized!  So that is all great!

As for my companion we are getting along super well right now.  All last change and for the first two weeks of this change we did not get along... but now we are great friends!  So that is all going good... we are actually super sad, because we think that I am going to have a change this saturday and that I might not be staying here, so we wont be together anymore... so that kind of sucks... but well we will get through it.

So yeah over all, it is going good my life as a missionary...and I am a happy guy..

Love Elder stuart...

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyo...

Well this week was a good week we are just chugging along...we are doing good.  I am doing all good... I am enjoying the mission... and glad for the weeks to come.  We have been having some good weeks these past weeks, and I dont have much to share with you guys, other than a story of a guy named Agusto...

Agusto is one of our investigators.  We found him about 2 weeks and 2 days ago.  but first off, our mission has a theme (I think that is what you call it)  and that theme is Baptize and Retain.  So anyways a thing that we have also been practicing is, buscando los escogidos, or I think the translation is something like looking for the people who are ready.  That we contact people and invite them to church and baptism the first lesson(like always) but if they say no... we let them go for a little bit of time and we continue looking for the people that say yes...  and so anyway we had a cool experience with this with Agusto.  So we found him in the street about 2 weeks ago saturday... and we literally only talked with him for 5 minutes, and we invited him to church.  And well he said yes!  But usually when the people here say yes they just are kind of lying, but to be nice they say yes and they end up not going.  But that sunday which is 3 sundays ago he went to church!  So that was really cool!  But then that week with conferences and sickness of my companion we couldnt end up making it to visit him that week.. but we asked one of his friends who is Walter to talk to him to see if he would go to church again.. and he said yes.  So then 2 sundays ago (general conference)  this Agusto came to church AGAIN!  and we had only talked to him for about 5minutes.  And just so you guys know that is basically a miracle.... so anyways... this week we finally had put a time with him on wednesday to meet with him and so we met with him... and we taught him the restoration...  AND HE BELIEVED EVERYTHING!  It was really cool to see all this happen... and we invited him to be baptized for the 18th (this coming saturday) and he said yes!  So then we invited him to church this week and he came again!  and so now he will be getting baptized this saturday...  So anyways long story short there are many people ready to hear this gospel... we just need to find them.  I had been looking day to day for 24ish hours a day for this and I finally found it.  It is hard but it is rewarding.  So it is our job not only the missionaries, but the members (as shown in this story, the member that took him to church the 2 time) to find these people that are ready to be baptized and to come unto christ.  So sorry for the long story... but it was actually pretty cool to see.

Last thing is that I have been studying more of the attributes of Christ... and I have noticed a big change in my life.  Even in just one week it really has changed me as a person.  I hope that you guys can do the same.... And a great place to find them are in Jesus the Christ... Dads favorite book...  I found 25 different attributes of Christ in just the first chapter and studied each one of them and it changed me... STUDY THEM!

Photos!

Some little kid (investigator) had some walking sticks...and this is my comp trying to use them... he failed EPICALLY... this kid made it look so easy but it really isnt...

Well this is general conference for yall... this is the saturday morning session... the first picture is the spanish speakers listening to it... all three of them... (p.s. 2 are missionaries and the other is the secretary of the branch) And this is the picture of the English session all four of us... me my comp and these two hnas... so we had a total of 7 people and 6 were missionaries!  Great turn out right???  Not even the president of the branch or his counsellors showed up... oops...

Conference...

Well this week was a good week, but I dont really have a ton of time, so I am just going to send you the big things that happened... (like I do every week).  So General conference, It was great... but we only saw like 1 and a half talks saturday morning, because the internet here is terrible... then from there saturday afternoon we just listened to on the computer in English because watching it didnt work... so we listened to all of that one... but it isnt the same just listening to it... so that was a bummer... then for priesthood we listened to it in spanish... because yeah i had to... and well that was good but once again it just wasnt the same...  so that was goodish... then sunday morning we were able to watch the whole thing in english, and so that was good... then for the sunday afternoon, we were going to watch the conference, but there was no power, or lights, or internet... so we couldnt watch it... until about 3 ish we hopped on board and we watched the last hour in spanish, because we couldnt watch it in english... so yeah it was a great experience with the talks that I saw.... But hey that is guatemala for you right??

But other than that we have been having a good time here in La Libertad... we were able to find teach and do all the good stuff... so that was good.  but one thing that is going really good here is that a while ago we were able to find a partial family ( a family that is some members and some not), and well those who are members are super inactive... and this week we were talking to them and we were talking about going to church (obvious??) and they said that finally they have the desire to go to church again... that they are ready to go to church once again in their lives... and we had been talking to them for about 3 months and they finally made that choice!  So that was super exciting!  So yeah that is about all that is happening here...

Love Elder Stuart

my scripture... well this week i was studying a lot the attributes of christ... and well how to be a better person and I really like these scriptures...mosiah 4:16-26... and alma 32:16  Enjoy!

Photos!

Us trying to take a district photo... and failing twice before we got a good one... we only had 10 seconds...

Um it rained a lot here...  This was in the street... um the water in the STREET was up to our knees... I dont know how it happened but yeah that is how it was... and there was a foot or two of water in some houses... so yeah that was kind of sad.. but it was pretty cool to see so much rain!

Me and elder Call... dont know if you guys  remember him, but he was by me back in Rabinal about a year ago... and we ended up doing a division this week, so we were having some fun... this is his house... one of the nicest houses in the mission... and also this lake is in the area of him, so we were passing by and I wanted to take a picture.... so yeah that was a pretty good day!

Hello again...

Well this week we received the changes but we received no changes... so me and my companion will be staying in this area for another 4 weeks... ( we have a short change this change, so yes it will be 4 weeks)  So we are actually pretty excited for that...  We might not get along very well... but neither one of us wanted a change, so we got what we wanted!  so we are pretty happy, and I feel like this change will be a good change!  So we are both pretty excited.

But anyways as for the working part... we sadly didnt have the 2 baptisms go through this past saturday... because at the last moment (thursday) they thought that they needed a little bit more preparation.  So that was a little bit sad, but I wasnt too sad because I know that they will be baptized now in october, and well I will be here.  So that is all good...  And the better part, is that when they were talking with us they told us that they wanted to receive the lessons again to understand them better, because they are 11 and 9, and in 2nd and 1st grades... so they arent the smartest people in the world... so they are wanting us to teach them again, but with their parents..  Their parents want to hear the lessons now!!  So sorry about that little story, but for those who didnt understand my jumbled english... the two kids didnt get baptized last saturday, because they want to be more prepared and they want their parents to receive the lessons... so that they can be baptized too!  So it was actually pretty cool!

So yeah we are all chill down here in guate... and I hope that you guys are ready for some snow!!!  Because here it comes!  But who knows right... but anyway, I am doing good.. I have still got my 2 arms and 2 legs, and my head... so we are doing good at this surviving thing.  And I hope that you will all listen, and watch General Conference this week!  It will be great!  So have fun, and good luck to those who need it, and well for those who dont...  read your scriptures...   My scripture is  1st nephi 1:12

Love Elder Stuart

Photos!

Well I dont have very many pictures this week, even of Tikal... because I gave my camera to one of the sister missionaries who didnt have a camera, because hers was ruined this week, so yeah bummer right... but next week Ill have more.

These are just some pictures that I took this morning on our way walking to the bus station to go to Tikal at 440 in the morning.  It was pretty cool!

Some pics that my comp took at Tikal of us that he just sent to me!

Week 6

Well this is my last week of this change... yet another change has flown by, just 7 more!  But things went well this week, although it has gone by a Little slow, it is going by pretty smoothly.  We are hoping that we will be able to have some success this week.  We have plans for 2 baptisms this saturday, and we are really hoping that all will go smoothly with that.

But anyways this week has been pretty interesting in the work.  We had some good things happen and well some bad things happen but overall it was a pretty decent week!  We had a really cool thing happen this week, that the father of these two kids that are going to get baptized, he was really happy that his kids get baptized, and we are hoping that eventually he will get baptized also, but in the future.  So that was pretty good.

Another good thing that happened was that we were able to have interviews with president Curtiss... and they were pretty great.  Everything is rolling along over there nice and fine.

Another good thing that happened.... is that we were able to prepare some other people for baptism for the month of October so we are really excited for them to get baptized, but the only sad part is that I might have a change this week and I might not be here to see that... so we will see how that goes.

And one last thing that was cool this week is that we were able to go to Tikal today!  It is basically the most popular thing to do in Guatemala.  It is a bunch of Ruins that are super big!  They are crazy big!  So that was really really cool!  It was great to go and we went with all our zone... the only problema is that my companion didnt want to go... I have absolutely no idea why, but whatever right???  We still ended up going!  So that was pretty interesting!

That is all that happened with me this week... so my scripture for you guys in Moroni 7:2... it is a Little hard to understand... but think about the will of christ and what he wants for you guys when you read it...

Photos!

When I was a little boy I thought that it might be fun to cut my lawn with a pair of scissors (dont think I spelt that right) then I came to Guatemala....  Very disappointingly, dream come true.

This week in Guate...

So this week was a pretty long week... but it was pretty good.  so as you guys know I was in the capital last week which is 12 hours away from where I am at... So that was the pits.  Then we went to go see the doctor and it turns out that everything is ok with my companion... and that we wasted 3 days to go there for my companion to receive a prescription for ibuproufen... so yeah I was a little bit frustrated about that.  But on the bright side I now got to know the Captial and I got to buy some little treats there that I cant find anywhere else.  So yeah mom about that on the credit card... sorry.. I had to...   But  overall it was a pretty disappointing experience.  We ended up having to take a 4 and a half hour bus ride in the morning...  Now just to put some imagery here.  Imaging riding in the back seat of the escalade... where there is no leg room...  but there is no gap in front of you for your legs.  Then to make it worse.. 5 people back there...  So if you can imagine that you can kind of feel my pain, but it gets worse... I was on a metal bar... Yep just my luck 4 and a half hours, no leg room, 5 people in a seat of 3 and I was on a bar... but it gets worse...  The people next to me... They were natives... but not your normal type of native... they are the type of native that stinks like they just got done washing their clothes, and body, with cat urine that was rotting in a jar for 3 months...  So yeah I could go into more detail... but I dont think you will want to know the other parts... so yeah just use your Imagination...

Then from there this week wasnt a very good week for the work either... because it is independence day here... today!  So this just to let you know a little bit about that.. Usually in church we have about 120-130 people in church to 53 this week.... So yeah that was a bummer... Everybody went to the parade, which just so happened to be at 9 in the morning until 12... so yeah just our luck right???

So one word to describe this week long...  But we have got some good plans for this week! so yeah we are going to have some good things this week!

My scripture for today.. 1st nephi 3:16

Good luck my friends...

Guatemala City!

This week was an interesting week!  We had some pretty normal things happen... But really it wasnt a very exciting week... But it was a good one!

Well first of all... Right now I am in the capital of Guatemala... that is why I am writing you today... because we were in the Doctors office all day yesterday!  My companion had to come to the capital for some examines for his head...  I guess that he has had a lot of problems with his head.. and the sleeping thing, so we came to see if he was all good up there in his dome...  We hope so... we are still waiting for the results today...

But yesterday was interesting, because I worked in a different mission!  I worked one day in the Guatemala South Mission.. and it was pretty fun.. but it weird how different the mission is one from another and things like that... just the little rules that change and stuff like that is pretty interesting!  So that was kind of fun!

As for my area in La Libertad, we are doing good... we have about 3 more baptisms planned for september, and like 2 for October.. So we are super excited!  We had a family of 8 people come to an activity in the church and they liked it but they didnt come to church on sunday.. so we are hoping that all will go good with them!

But that is about it...  my scripture is joshua 1:9...

My comp fell asleep the other day at like 10... I guess he wasnt feeling well or what not.. and well when I went to wake him up at 1030 he wouldnt wake up... so yeah thatt was where he was.. and it took a half hour of water pouring, pan smacking, and many other things to wake him up... I guess he has sleeping problems...
